Humpback Whale swims approved to start 1st July in Coral Bay for 2018!

Every year endangered Humpback Whales make their way along the Western Australia coast during their annual migration.

These giant marine mammals are commonly sighted in Coral Bay between June and October. For many years operators on the Ningaloo Reef have run successful whale watching tours, learning much about their behaviour.

In 2016 WA’s Parks and Wildlife service initiated a 2-year trial allowing a select few tour operators to conduct in-water interactions with Humpback Whales only on the Ningaloo Reef between the months of August 1st to November. These in-water interactions have provided tourists the opportunity to swim with Humpback Whales, a rare and memorable experience. The trial has been so successful for both tourism and scientific data collection efforts that it was decided that a 3rd year of the trial would run in 2018.

Acknowledging that humpbacks are seen regularly and reliably much earlier in the season in Coral Bay than in other parts of the Ningaloo Reef, WA’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions announced last week that Coral Bay will be commencing in-water humpback whale interaction tours for the 1st July, a month earlier than previously allowed.

Coral Bay Ecotours is excited at the opportunity to begin their Humpback Whale Safaris next month and welcomes everyone to join us for an amazing up-close experience with these magnificent marine mammals.
